Effective Safety Management Practices I & II

The Effective Safety Management Practices training provides advanced next-level knowledge required to implement a successful safety management system. Designed for safety leaders, this course addresses safety management systems, the roles and responsibilities of safety professionals, leading safety management processes, safety performance measures and more. It’s ideal for the people who coordinate, supervise, or manage your organization’s safety and health efforts.

This course is part of the curriculum toward achieving the Advanced Safety Certificate.

Objectives:
  • Determine how events in the safety, health, and management fields influence your organization’s safety management focus.
  • Identify characteristics of an effective safety management system.
  • Identify roles and responsibilities of safety professionals.
  • Assess your personal leadership skills.
  • Identify the four key requirements for creating a positive safety culture.
  • Identify activities to perform in your organization’s safety and health audit process.
  • Use measurement tools to evaluate safety at your organization.
  • Establish a business case for a safety management system.
  • Analyze a safety and health case study from a manager’s perspective and develop a plan to resolve the identified issues.
  • Differentiate between an audit and inspection.
  • Identify the elements of a safety management system that you currently audit in your organization.
  • Identify activities performed in the safety and health audit process.
  • Recognize the roles and responsibilities of an audit team leader, an audit team, and an audited group.
  • Identify reasons and benefits of effectively managing an organization’s safety and health efforts.
  • Differentiate between insured and uninsured costs.
  • Calculate a total case rate.
  • Conduct a cost-benefit analysis and describe why it is important.

Location: This course will be held at the Minnesota Safety Council Resource Center located at 474 Concordia Avenue in St. Paul. Take the Dale Street exit from I-94. Proceed east on south frontage road (Concordia Avenue) past the American Lung Association. Turn right into our lower level parking lot.

Lodging: Holiday Inn St. Paul Downtown, 175 West 7th Street in St. Paul. Reservations can be made directly by calling 651.225.1515 or booking online, single or double occupancy. Please make reservations directly with the hotel and be sure to identify yourself as a participant in a Minnesota Safety Council training course to receive the preferred rate.

Cancellation Policy: Pre-registration and payment are required. Hopefully you won't need to cancel, but if you do, please do so at least three business days prior to the course for a full refund. No refunds will be made after three business days prior to the course. This policy will be enforced, so please plan ahead if you need to cancel your attendance.
