Hearing Protection: Fundamentals for Noise Exposure

Do you have situations in the work environment where you have to speak at a volume above your normal volume to carry a conversation to someone next to you? Do you have employees operating noisy machines, tools and equipment throughout their work day? Have you measured the noise exposure to ensure your employees are not over-exposed? Standards to protect workers from hazardous noise exposure have not only been established by OSHA, but also under Minnesota’s “Employee Right-To-Know” requirements. This course will help employers recognize and understand the hazard of noise, required engineering and administrative controls, and how to implement an effective Hearing Conservation Program. This course addresses BOTH General Industry and Construction, and is intended for managers, supervisors, superintendents, leads/foremen, safety personnel and trainers.

Topics include:
  • Overview of hazardous noise exposure
  • Evaluation and environmental monitoring
  • OSHA’s Hearing Protection Standards
  • Engineering and administrative controls
  • Selection/Use of hearing protection
  • Audiometric testing
  • Training and communication
  • Hearing conservation/protection programs
