Duties/Responsibilities:
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. This is a salaried exempt position with a typical Monday through Friday workweek. However, scheduling flexibility is required, as early morning, evening, and weekend assignments at various locations are typical to meet the needs of business and industry.
Outreach Services and Sales for District Businesses and Industries
- Meet with district businesses and industries to determine safety goals and needs, and develop ways to address identified needs and concerns through customized training and technical assistance.
- Perform in-plant safety and health audits of district businesses and industries. Make recommendations for compliance and effective safety management.
- Review safety programs and make recommendations for compliance and workplace safety.
- Serve as a point of contact and subject matter expert for district businesses and industries.
- Assist with the development of quotations and contracts for training and technical assistance.
- Conduct frequent environmental scanning activities, monitor regulatory changes, and identify new market and product opportunities.
- Conduct formal and informal training needs assessments for district businesses and industries using a variety of data gathering techniques, including surveys, questionnaires, interviews, observation, focus groups, etc.
- Communicate and maintain collaborative relationships with district businesses, industries, governmental agencies, and other organizations.
- Manage and document information related to outreach services and sales for district businesses and industries, governmental agencies, and other organizations (i.e., client contact information, e-mails, phone contacts, previous services offered, etc.).
Safety and Health Training and Technical Assistance
- Coordinate the development, delivery, and assessment of safety and health training and technical assistance offered by the college.
- Develop, revise, and customize safety and health curriculum within areas of expertise/certification, incorporating a variety of delivery methods (i.e., instructor-led training, online learning, blended learning, job aids, video, and self-directed learning).
- Document safety and health curriculum utilizing College curriculum design format and tools.
- Develop high quality instructional support materials appropriate to the audience and delivery method.
- Provide customized training/professional development, technical assistance, and continuing education courses within areas of certification and expertise utilizing a variety of approaches, including alternative delivery methods, to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Support and promote the initiatives of a learning-centered College.
- Assess learning outcomes and incorporate continuous quality improvement practices into the teaching and learning process.
College Safety and Security Committee
- Serve as a member of the Safety and Security Committee.
- Perform College safety and health audits. Make recommendations for compliance and effective safety management.
- Review College safety programs, policies, and procedures, and make recommendations for compliance and improved workplace safety.
- Identify and deliver safety and health training to College staff and students.
- Maintain detailed records of services rendered utilizing the College approved processes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial/Environmental Health and Safety, or related field required. Master's degree preferred.
- Specialized certification in one or more of the following areas preferred: OSHA Outreach Trainer in General Industry and/or Construction, HazMat, Confined Space, Powered Industrial Truck Safety, MSHA (Mine Safety), and/or Lead Safe Renovator.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in industrial safety in the following areas: OSHA (general industry), hazard communication, hazardous materials, emergency spill response, confined space, electrical safety, fall protection, ergonomics, and bloodborne pathogens required.
- Ability to interpret legislative, administrative rules and laws (i.e., OSHA, EPA, DOT, and NFPA), and statutory regulations.
- The preferred candidate will have 8 - 10 years of experience in industry in roles such as corporate safety specialist, safety officer, safety manager/director, emergency response team coordinator/leader, or industrial fire brigade member/chief.
- Teaching/training experience is preferred.
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills (including active listening skills).
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers.
Certifications/Requirements:
- Must meet and maintain Wisconsin Technical College System instructor certification requirements.
- Must stay current in areas of expertise and maintain certification/licensing required by the College.

Normally, education may be substituted for experience, or experience substituted for education, on a year for year basis.
