(May 13, 2009 – ST. PAUL, MN) - Practical solutions to help businesses reduce injuries and related costs are the focus of the 75th annual Minnesota Safety and Health Conference, presented by the Minnesota Safety Council, May 13 - 15, at the Minneapolis Convention Center. The event features local and national experts leading more than 100 educational sessions, and 100-plus exhibitors from across the country, offering "hands-on" experience and insights into workplace safety products and services. This year’s gathering will also mark the 75th anniversary of the Governor's Safety Awards, which will be presented on Friday, May 15 at 1:30. Governor Tim Pawlenty is scheduled to attend and recognize Minnesota workplaces that have achieved exceptional performance in safety.
"Now, more than ever, those of us involved in workplace safety and health need to stay connected," said Carol Bufton, president of the Minnesota Safety Council. "The conference is a great opportunity to learn about trends, tools and solutions that will reduce injuries and related costs."
Speakers will tackle critical issues in workplace safety and health, including operating effectively with shrinking resources, innovative strategies for improvement, and managing change. In-depth full- and half-day classes complement shorter breakout sessions — more than 100 in all. Topics include training strategies, motivation, safety culture, the aging workforce, safety management, workers’ compensation, ergonomics, fall prevention, nanoparticles, commercial vehicle safety, occupational health, OSHA updates, and much more. Behind-the-scenes tours will examine safety operations at the new Minnesota Twins stadium, and the Minneapolis Convention Center. Continuing education units and American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) points are available.
