(April 20, 2009 – ST. PAUL, MN) Four northeastern area business leaders have assumed significant leadership roles with the Minnesota Safety Council.
Ronald J. Hanson, executive vice president and general manager of Oscar J. Boldt Construction, Cloquet, has been elected chairman of the board of directors. Hanson has served on the board since 2000. The Appleton, Wisconsin-based company was named one of America’s safest companies in November 2008 by Occupational Hazards magazine.
Recently elected to terms on the Minnesota Safety Council board of directors are:
Joe Maher, general manager of UPM, Blandin Paper Company, Grand Rapids; Glen Porter, vice president for human resources, ALLETE Inc., Duluth, the parent company of Minnesota Power; and Bill Schmitt, plant manager, USG Interiors, Cloquet.
Blandin has been a member of the Minnesota Safety Council for 41 years and has been recognized for its strong safety program. Minnesota Power joined the Minnesota Safety Council in 1969 and has several times earned the Governor’s Workplace Safety Award. USG Interiors, a Minnesota Safety Council member since 1986, has been a leader in workplace safety since 1913 when it was one of the founding members of the National Safety Council.
The 24-member volunteer board of directors sets strategic direction for the Minnesota Safety Council, a private, not-for-profit organization dedicated to preventing injuries at work, on the road, at home and at play. Founded in 1928, it is a chapter of the National Safety Council and provides information, education and training in workplace and traffic safety, as well as programs and resources for home and community. The Minnesota Safety Council places particular emphasis on helping its members reduce injuries and costly claims, increase productivity and stay competitive
