On October 25 Captain Kevin Torgerson with Olmsted County Sheriff’s Department ran the 26.2 mile Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C. on behalf of Safe Kids Team Minnesota! He had a wonderful race, finishing at 3:54:17. Kevin, a veteran of 20 marathons, put in a great deal of time and effort into his training for this marathon — 790 miles in 85 days — and called the experience a natural fit with his lifelong commitment to keeping people safe.
Safe Kids Minnesota, a statewide coalition of six chapters and more than 250 members, was one of 20 Safe Kids affiliates (out of 600!) invited to participate in the Marine Corps Marathon to raise awareness of childhood injury and funds for outreach. We were successful in reaching the required $3,000 fundraising mark. Dollars raised will support delivery of information and safety devices to prevent injuries and save children’s lives nationally and in Minnesota.
Thank you to everyone who supported this campaign.
Thank you Safe Kids for all your hard work and to everyone in Minnesota who helped out. I was so honored and so blessed by this experience. Kevin Torgerson
