Join the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, the Minnesota Network of Employers for Traffic Safety, law enforcement agencies and other businesses throughout the state in the effort to prevent the human and economic losses caused by impaired driving. Reserve the "fatal vision" goggles (which simulate various level’s of impairment) for your organization. Have volunteers do "the walk and turn" and the one-leg stand standardized filed sobriety exercises just as you would a a DWI stop. Host a traffic safety display in your lunch room or commons area. Contact your local law enforcement agencies to offer assistance and support for the upcoming campaign. Arrange for marquees or electronic sign boards at your local businesses or schools to carry "Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest" messages. Do you live or work in one of our deadliest counties? Download a poster of Minnesota’s 13 deadliest counties to post on bulletin boards, lunch area or commons. Write a letter to the editor of your local or neighborhood newspaper or to your mayor supporting the upcoming campaign. In Minnesota traffic crashes are the leading cause of death through age 34 and the leading cause of workplace death. From 2004 to 2006, Minnesota averaged 540 traffic deaths per year—180 (33 percent) per year were impaired-driving related. In 2006, a record high of 41,842 DWI arrest were made. Of all Minnesota residents, 493,059 have a DWI on record, 209,056 (one in 19) have two or more arrests; 97,729 (one in 40) have three or more.
