    New Car Seat Checklists
    The new car seat checklist will be available February 1, 2006. More than 25 reviewers from the field and the national Safe Kids program were involved in the development of this form. The checklist was revised to allow two car seats to be checked using one form. Also, a general tutorial is included on the back of the form as a refresher for people who may want to double-check their skills. After February 1, 2006, please use ONLY the new car seat checklist form.

    Poison Prevention PSA
    The Cardinal Health Foundation has sponsored the creation of a poison safety public service announcement, to launch during Poison Prevention Week - March 19-25, 2006. The PSA which will come in 15- and 30-second Spanish and English versions, will be provided to interested coalitions. The PSA features "Rex", an animated pill bottle, who warns parents and caregivers of the dangers of accidental medicine-related poisoning of children.

    Smart Parents, Safe Kids Video
    The Smart Parents, Safe Kids video has arrived. Please contact Erin if you are interested in viewing this new video created by MetLife Foundation which highlights basic safety considerations for parents and caregivers of children ages 3 and under.

    Safe Routes to School Update
    Safe Routes to School is a new federal government-funded program designed to make it safer for children to walk or bike to school. The federal government has committed $612 million in transportation funds over five years to help states implement this initiative. Safe Kids encourages you to check the Federal Highway Administration's site regularly for updates on how the Safe Routes to Schools program can assist with new initiatives in your area.

    Work Group Invitation—Injury Free Coalition For Kids (coordinated by HCMC)
    The Injury Free Coalition for Kids has invited Safe Kids Minnesota members to be a part of two upcoming Work Group meetings.

    Work Group #1
    Date: Tuesday, February 12
    Time: 2 - 4 PM
    Location: HCMC
    Work Group Meeting Focus: Multicultural Communities
    Purpose: Gather data specific information from multiple sources and identify specific neighborhoods for particular intervention efforts.

    Work Group #2
    Date: Tuesday, February 21
    Time: 8:30 - 10:30 AM
    Location: Brain Injury Association of MN (34 13th Avenue NE, Minneapolis 55413)
    Work Group Meeting Focus: Established Parent-Information Sources
    Purpose: Identify established groups that already give parents information (ECFE, well child checks, scouts, school conferences) and focus on creating curriculum to educate leaders of these groups so that they are equipped to provide basic injury prevention to their participants.
