Well! That was a blast! Energy, enthusiasm (and attendance) ran high at last week's Minnesota Safety & Health Conference. Visit http://www.mnsafetycouncil.org/conf/04index.htm for a recap. You'll find photos of the conference, the Hiawatha Light Rail tour, and the Governor's Safety Awards luncheon, and comments from attendees about why they'd recommend the conference to others. Mark your calendar now for next year's event, May 11-13! Hot Items Still Available from Membership Thanks from the membership team to all the folks who stopped by our booth at the conference to say "hi" and pick up a free T-shirt. It was great to reconnect with good friends, and match a face to a name with new ones! We hope you had a chance to enjoy a chair massage or try walking the line wearing the "drunk goggles." Check out the next two articles for the hottest items at the conference! Chocolate is a health food. At least we think so—after all, it comes from the cocoa BEAN, right?! If you were at the conference, you got to sample a simply terrific bar made with rich Belgian chocolate and labeled "Think Safety." Order as a safety incentive, employee gift, health fair give-away, etc. For more info, see http://www.mnsafetycouncil.org/products/chocbar.pdf. And who could forget the "highlight" of the conference....the light up gel ring? Response to the rings was through the roof! We sold out TWICE! We've ordered more for those who missed out. Check them out at http://www.mnsafetycouncil.org/products/ring.htm. They'll go fast, so get your order in right away. Contact Barbara at 651-228-7320/800-444-9150; e-mail: korf@mnsafetycouncil.org. The proceeds will go to make our organization even stronger for our members. No-Risk Training for High-Risk Driving Situations Many of you had an opportunity at the conference to test drive our new Safe Sim truck driving simulator and enjoyed the ride! Congratulations to Veronica Hoppe from Barrett Moving & Storage, who won 30-day' unlimited use of the simulator program for her company. There's an easy way the rest of you can still experience this revolutionary new PC-based training tool. For only $149 you can order a 30-day test drive for all the drivers at your company. If you choose to keep it you simply pay the remaining $846 of the full $995 purchase price. Safe Sim is a fully interactive driving simulator that comes with a steering wheel, foot pedals and customizable software. It works great for pre-employment screening, hazard identification skills, and post-accident training. Your employees will have so much fun they'll forget that you're actually teaching them defensive driving skills (skills that will help lower your company's insurance rates). For more information, contact Russ at 651-228-7326/800-444-9150, or email him at budin@mnsafetycouncil.org. Emergency Care: That Was One High Voltage Display! Thanks to the hundreds who stopped by our booth to ask us about emergency care. The most pressing questions we heard were about automated external defibrillators (AEDs)—and demos of the Philips Heartstart Onsite defibrillator provided people with answers. If you received the Philips information and have questions, or are interested in purchasing an AED, contact Bryan at bomstad@mnsafetycouncil.org or by calling 651-228-7315/800-444-9150. On a related note, we need instructors! If you're interested in CPR/first aid instructor training for your company (or for us), we have an Instructor Development Course June 14-17. Sign up now and take advantage of a great new program coming out later this summer with upgraded materials at a reduced price! If interested, please contact Bryan. Upcoming Training: Advanced Safety Certificate Courses! Earn nationally-recognized credit while learning advanced skills here at home! The Advanced Safety Certificate is sponsored by the National Safety Council and involves the completion of three courses. Two of the courses in the series are being offered in June! Safety Management Techniques will be offered June 7-10 and Fundamentals of Industrial Hygiene will be offered June 21-25. Please contact Carol Wicks at 651/228-7319/800/444-9150 or go to http://www.mnsafetycouncil.org/courses. ![]() Safer Since 1928 |
