FABULOUS FEBRUARY

These three courses make up the Minnesota Safety Council and Minnesota OSHA Basic Workplace Safety Certificate, intended for those seeking the basics of administering an effective workplace safety and health program. Can't attend all three? Not to worry—you have up to two years to complete all three courses!
  • Bloodborne Pathogen Standard Compliance Workshop, Non-Health Care, February 18. Learn how the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen standard applies to non-health care businesses. Learn to develop exposure control plans and training sessions, and to identify functions requiring personal protective equipment. Assists in complying with OSHA standard 1910.1030.
  • Principles of Occupational Safety & Health, February 23-26 or March 9, 15, 23 & 30. Do you have full or part-time employee safety and health responsibilities within your organization? Are you a Human Resource professional who needs to understand the essential concepts of occupational safety and health management? Then this course is for you! Part of the Advanced Safety Certificate Series sponsored by the National Safety Council. Ask us for more details!
MARVELOUS MARCH!
  • Audiometric Technician Training/ Refresher, Hands-on, March 2-4 (full course), March 3 (refresher). This highly interactive 2 l/2 day program trains and certifies audiometrists and technicians. The refresher course is for those previously certified. Will assist you in complying with OSHA Standard 1910.95.
  • Accident Investigation and Job Hazard Analysis, March 3, June 2. Accident investigation and hazard identification are key elements of the AWAIR Act. To have an effective safety program, you must identify and control hazards and investigate accidents, determining causes in order to prevent recurrence. Plus, learn the benefits of Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and how to conduct one.
  • Effective Safety Committees, March 4, May 11. Do you have more than 25 employees at your business? If so, Minnesota Statute 176.232 requires you to establish a joint labor-management safety committee. Learn how to get people involved and motivate your safety committee!
  • How to Manage an OSHA Inspection, March 9. Avoid citations and penalties! Hear from a former Minnesota OSHA consultant on how to prepare in advance for a possible OSHA inspection; how to successfully resolve issues identified by an inspector; how to deal with an inspector during the on-site visit; how the appeal process works; what the agency looks for before issuing a citation; how the negotiation process produces a safer workplace; and what the future looks like from an enforcement standpoint.
  • Lockout/Tagout Workshop, March 10, June 10. This 4-hour workshop assists in complying with OSHA Standard 1910.147. Provides a clear understanding of the standard. Also learn how to effectively lock out, and how to develop a written energy control program.
  • Scaffolding: Competent Person, March 11. Full-day course covers user and competent person scaffolding training. Learn the duties of the competent person and the activities they supervise.
  • Fire Protection Compliance Training, March 12, May 14. This 4-hour course provides both classroom and hands-on training on fire extinguisher use. A mobile fire extinguisher training unit that simulates a variety of workplace settings will be utilized for the hands-on section of the workshop.
  • Fall Protection: Competent Person, March 19. Eight-hour course covers OSHA competent person requirements for fall protection, fall hazard identification, how to select the proper protective system and the importance of planning for fall protection.
  • Trenching and Excavating, March 24. This four-hour class assists in complying with OSHA Standard 1926.650-652.
  • OSHA Recordkeeping (Log 300 and 301 Training), March 25, June 3. Attend this four-hour session and learn the requirements and the mechanics of recordkeeping, OSHA forms 300 and 301, and Bureau of Labor Statistics surveys.
  • Workers' Compensation - Controlling Costs, March 30. How can business control rising premiums and claim costs? In this full-day course learn practical strategies PLUS hear a panel of small companies tell their success stories.
  • Respirator Fit-Testing, Hands-on, March 31. This hands-on workshop will discuss respirator fit-testing: when it is required and how often it must be done. Learn how to conduct a respirator fit-test using the protocol described in the revised OSHA Respirator Standard 1910.134

  • Ergonomics: Evaluate Your Office Workstation, April 1. This four-hour session will cover practical, effective and inexpensive ergonomic strategies to address musculoskeletal injury prevention for office workers in the workplace.
  • Ergonomics: Evaluate Your Industrial Workstation, April 2. This four-hour session helps develop effective and inexpensive solutions to control musculoskeletal injuries in the industrial setting. Learn how employee technique, workplace design and tool design affect the physiology and musculoskeletal system of workers.
