"Change Your Clocks, Check Your Stocks" The switch to daylight saving time happens during the wee hours of the morning next Sunday, March 9. In addition to using this event as a trigger to change smoke detector batteries, the American Public Health Association (APHA) is encouraging people to check their emergency preparedness kits. You'll find a 14-page toolkit from the APHA on the National Safety Council Web site, with individual pages suitable as handouts for employees at http://www.getreadyforflu.org/clocksstocks/stockpilingtoolkit.pdf. The toolkit answers common questions and provides checklists and other resources designed to help people be self-sufficient for several days during an emergency.
