Upcoming Training: More Summer Sizzlers!
  • Electrical Safe Work Practices Training, August 11-12. This two-day course meets OSHA requirements; NFPA's 70E requirements; electrical hazard recognition, lockout procedures, inspection test instruments, accident investigation, electrical risk assessment and the proper selection and use of personal protective equipment required in 29 CFR 1910.335 and 29 CFR 1910.137. Art Hawes from Chicago is the instructor!
  • Effective Safety Committees, August 14. Do you have more than 25 employees? If so, Minnesota Statute 176.232 requires you to establish a joint labor-management safety committee.
  • OSHA 501 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry, August 18-21 (Fargo), September 15-18 (St. Paul). This course allows you to conduct both a 10- and 30-hour voluntary compliance course and issue course completion cards to participants.
  • Fork Truck Instructor Development Training, August 20, September 26. OSHA's General Industry Standard 1910.178 requires fork truck operators to be trained and authorized. This full-day workshop will provide the technical expertise needed to safely operate forklift equipment, information about safe driving procedures, and the skills to conduct an effective training session.
  • AWAIR (A Workplace Accident and Injury Reduction) Program, August 26, November 11. All Minnesota employers in specific injury-producing industries are required to have an AWAIR safety and health program or face monetary penalties. Learn how to develop (or improve) and manage your program.

Fourth of July Brings Fun, Travel, Risk
As we head into a heavy-travel weekend, remind your employees of safer driving choices. The Minnesota Network of Employers for Traffic Safety (NETS) offers free payroll stuffers, brochures and fact sheets (see www.mnsafetycouncil.org/nets and click on "Safety Info" for fact sheets and "Resources" for other materials). Law enforcement agencies throughout the state are involved in a mobilization focused on impaired driving, from July 3-26. See www.dps.state.mn.us/ots/enforcement_programs/July_Mob/media.asp and scroll down the page for links to fact sheets and print public service announcements.
