- Governor Proclaims "Minnesota Safety Council Month"
On Monday the Minnesota Safety Council turned 75! In recognition of this landmark anniversary and
the contributions of our organization to the state, Governor Pawlenty has issued the following
proclamation:
"Whereas, our quality of life is one of Minnesota's treasured resources; and
Whereas, every year hundreds of thousands of Minnesotans are hurt and 1,500 people die as a result of
unintentional ("accidental") injuries; and
Whereas, unintentional injuries are the leading cause of death among Minnesotans through the
age of 34; and
Whereas, the Minnesota Safety Council is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2003 and has been
dedicated to reducing these injuries since its inception; and
Whereas, the work of the Minnesota Safety Council in preventing injuries has been recognized as
effective and exemplary by the National Safety Council, the National SAFE KIDS Campaign, the
White House and others;
Now, therefore, I, Tim Pawlenty, Governor of Minnesota, do hereby proclaim the
month of June 2003 as 'Minnesota Safety Council Month' in the state of Minnesota."
As we begin the next 75 years, our thanks to all of you for your support and for working with us to
reduce unintentional injuries. Together, we are making a difference.
