Location, Location, Location!
Thanks for your feedback on our conference location in the Minneapolis Convention Center this year. Our move to the new lower level was due to a change in our conference dates, because of a conflict in dates with the Wisconsin Council of Safety's show. BUT we'll be back in our old digs on the main level next year. See you May 5-7, 2004 as we celebrate the conference's 70th anniversary. It'll be one you won't want to miss!

Participate in National Safety Month
National Safety Month, sponsored by the National Safety Council, is a great time to raise awareness among your employees about safety on and off the job. The month encourages individual and group preparedness through:
Knowledge—knowing the issues, the risks and the responses.
Action—making plans and being prepared to handle any emergency.
Dedication—being a role model and making safety a priority.
Community—engaging co-workers, family and neighbors.

Each week of the month focuses on a different theme:
June 1-7 Safe Driving Week
June 8-14 Home and Community Safety Week
June 15-21 Preparedness Week
June 22-28 Workplace Safety Week

Want to highlight National Safety Month at your organization? Contact Russ Budin at 651-228-7326/800-444-9150; e-mail: budin@mnsafetycouncil.org.

Complying with "Conceal and Carry"
A number of members have contacted us requesting assistance in developing policies and signs related to Minnesota's new "Conceal and Carry" gun law, which goes into effect on May 28. We've put together material to help you meet the requirements of the law, which we can e-mail to you. It includes a brief summary of the law (which contains required text for signs), and sample language for employment/policy handbooks. If you're interested, e-mail Carol Bufton at bufton@mnsafetycouncil.org.

Traffic Crashes Set Record Pace; Protect Employees by Promoting Seat Belt Use
It's been a grim week on Minnesota's roadways. So far we seem to be on course for another record year of traffic deaths in Minnesota. Last year's death toll of 657 was the highest in two decades and we've already had 23 more deaths than at this time last year. Crashes are the leading cause of work-related death in Minnesota, and result in costs of more than $1.6 billion annually. As we head into the long holiday weekend, take the time to remind your employees of the single most effective step they can take to prevent these injury deaths: buckle every body, every seat, every time. For more information and resources see our Web site at www.mnsafetycouncil.org/nets, www.mnsafetycouncil.org/sbcoalition, www.mnsafetycouncil.org/snappy.
