A total of 42,600 unintentional-injury deaths and 10.2 million disabling injuries occurred in the home in 2006 (most current data available, National Safety Council.) Since 2000 deaths in the home (and death rates per 100,000 population) have steadily increased.

drowning and falls. Poisoning emerges as the leading cause of death in the mid-teens through the early 60s, when it is eclipsed by falls.
