Nearly 10 million home injuries in the U.S. in 2003 required medical attention (National Safety Council).
Numbers of injuries in the home will look higher than previous years. Minnesota death certificates used to
carry less information on place of injury. Over the last couple of years, the recording of such information
has greatly increased.

From infancy through age 9, our children are most at risk at home from suffocation,
drowning and fire. Poisoning emerges as a leading cause in the mid-teens through the mid-50s.
It remains a leading cause, but is eclipsed by falls after age 55.
