Stop for the Feet

DID YOU KNOW?
  • Vehicles traveled almost 57 billion miles on Minnesota's public roadways in 2006. That's equivalent to about 2.3 million trips around the circumference of the earth.

  • White or neon colored clothing is fine for daylight visibility, but only retro-reflective clothing material allows drivers to see pedestrians at night. Retro-reflective materials light up brilliantly when struck by beams of a headlight -- reflecting up to 1500 times more light than white fabric when viewed under nighttime conditions.

  • There are over 5,000 railroad crossings in Minnesota.

  • How long does it take a driver to react to a road hazard? Three quarters of a second. At 30 miles per hour, that's 33 feet before the driver begins to stop.

  • The biggest factor in crashes is driver inattention or distraction and failure to yield the right of way.
