Bike Rodeo Planning Guide

Station 1: Introduction/Inspection
Suggested time: 10-20 minutes per group

Purpose
Participants will assemble here, with their bicycles and helmets, to receive overall course instruction. Basic traffic rules will be reviewed, course layout will be explained, and score sheets will be handed out. A bike inspection should conclude this station.

Objectives
1. Review course layout
2. Review traffic rules related to biking
3. Inspect each participant's bicycle

Method
Each bike is quickly checked, with major repairs or problems directed to more experienced mechanics. A "repair station" may be set up to deal with these problems and can be staffed by a local bike shop.

Important: The inspection process should be a learning opportunity for the participants. Explain what is being done and why. Provide a checklist (see link below) for each participant to fill out. Send home to parents with recommendations for needed repairs or safety equipment.
