Bike Rodeo Planning Guide: Introduction

Bike rodeos present driving courses designed to simulate actual road situations commonly encountered by bicyclists. A bike rodeo is an effective way to involve parents, teachers and civic and community groups in helping young bikers learn how to ride safely. It's also a fun way to reinforce safe bicycling skills. This guide focuses on the following skills:

  • signaling
  • scanning for traffic without weaving
  • turning
  • maneuvering
  • entering a roadway safely
  • avoiding hazards
  • balance
  • braking
