Seniors are the fastest growing segment of our population, and they tend to be injured
and die of injuries in disproportionate numbers to the rest of the population. Nonfatal unintentional
injuries impact quality of life. For instance, falls often result
in reduced mobility and premature nursing home placement. A fall can make the difference
between independent living and dependent living.
Important injury issues for older adults and their families include falls, traffic
safety, poison prevention, home safety, suicide and scalds/burns.
