Minnesota Operation Lifesaver Annual Report, 2008
Minnesota Operation Lifesaver, Inc. (MNOL, Inc) is a 501(c) (3) organization. Contributing partners include but are not limited to BNSF Railway, Canadian Pacific Railroad, Union Pacific Railroad, Operation Lifesaver, Inc., Canadian National Railroad, Twin Cities & Western Railroad, and the Minnesota Safety Council, LORAM Maintenance of Way, Minnesota Dept. of Transportation, Minnesota Department of Motor Vehicle Services, Minnesota Commercial Railway, Northern Plains Railroad, Federal Railroad Administration, Lowry Hill.
In 2008 MNOL Presenters provided over 570 presentations educating a total of over 17,000 participants on the lifesaving message of highway-rail grade crossing safety. Presentations were provided to students K thru grade 8; high school and adult driver’s education classes; school bus drivers; professional truck drivers; law enforcement; fire fighters and various civic groups and clubs. In addition, MNOL, Inc. presenters participated in over 150 special events held at various locations throughout the state including conferences, county fairs, community events, and safety camps reaching over 120,000 additional individuals. Specialized grade crossing collision investigation (GCCI) training was also conducted reaching 168 participants.
Additionally, MNOL, Inc. participated in an outreach grant that provided over 380 driver education instructors with the award winning Look to Live railroad safety video featuring teen drivers.
MNOL, Inc. also received grant funding to collaborate with the passenger rail system in Minnesota on passenger rail safety information.
During the past year 27 presenters gave four or more presentations and 3 new Presenter Training Classes were held. A total of 18 new presenters were certified while 34 presenters left the MNOL, Inc. program for reasons unknown.
